Welcome Welcome to the AIRSS (Association of Illinois Rural and Small Schools) web page. The Association was chartered in 1987 with the purpose of presenting a unified effort to promote educational excellence in rural and small schools in Illinois. In 1994, LOCON merged with and became an affiliate of AIRSS Our major emphasis is to help promote and enhance the improvement of education in rural and small schools in every community and location in the State of Illinois. Goals of the Organization Pursue excellence in rural and small schools. Encourage access to quality educational opportunities for all students in rural and small schools. Prepare advice, counsel, and testimony to governmental and private agencies on matters of education in rural and small schools. Actively work to obtain legislation for the benefit of education in rural and small schools within the limits of the statutes and regulations of the United States and the State of Illinois. Give identity, voice, and recognition to rural and small schools. Enhance the quality of life unique to rural and small communites through education. Preserve local determination and policies.
